Morning Hike: Trolltunga Approach
Trail Report — March 20, 2026 at 14:23:15 UTC
Started the ascent from Skjeggedal at dawn. The first 4 km follow a well-maintained gravel path with moderate elevation gain. Trail markers are clear, with red T-marks painted on rocks every 50 meters.
Above the treeline, the terrain transitions to exposed rock slabs. Microspikes recommended in early season. Wind picked up around 900 m elevation — the Nordvind tent performed well as an emergency shelter during a 30-minute hail shower.
Total distance: 12 km one way. Elevation gain: 800 m. Time: 4.5 hours up, 3 hours down. Water sources available at two stream crossings.
